A transformer is one of the most important components used in electronic equipment and systems. Dry-type transformers are widely used in a variety of commercial, utility, and industrial applications due to their wide range of benefits. Continued advances in this transformer technology will make electrical equipment even more efficient in the years to come.

What are dry-type transformers used for?

Dry-type transformers are typically used in electrical equipment for small and medium voltage applications and are ideally suited to industrial, utility, and commercial applications. In addition, they have varnished copper or aluminum windings.

Applications for dry-type transformers

Dry-type transformers are used in various industries such as chemical, gas, and oil.

Environmentally sensitive water conservation areas use dry-type transformers.

Dry-type transformers are also used in forested areas.

Dry-type transformers are used in substations in domestic cities.

Dry-type transformers are used in indoor and underground substations.

Advantages of dry-type transformers

Dry-type transformers are environmentally friendly because they do not release toxic gases that cause pollution.

They can be used in contaminated and humid areas

Their installation process is simple.

The dielectric heating and low thermal properties of dry-type transformers make them durable.

They are safe for people and the surrounding environment.

They have a high resistance, which helps them to manage short-circuit currents.

They have a low side gap and offer excellent performance.

With their high capacity, they are able to handle overloads.

Specialized dry-type transformers

There are also specially designed dry-type transformers designed to meet the needs of unique applications, including

H-class dry-type power transformers

SG (B) 10 series of non-encapsulated H-class dry-type power transformers adopt the special process technology of German (MORA) dry-type transformers to ensure that the products fully meet the requirements such as fire prevention, waterproof, environmental protection. It is the ideal product for distribution systems and is widely used in the subway, shipbuilding, mining, chemical, power companies, and personnel-intensive buildings as well as other special requirements of the occasion for safety.

K-Factor Rating

K-Factor transformers are specifically designed to withstand the harmful overheating effects caused by harmonics generated by non-linear (non-sinusoidal) loads. These loads include computers, laser printers, photocopiers, and other office equipment, as well as video monitors and other electronic equipment. k-factor transformers are more than just oversized transformers. the cores and coils of k-factor transformers are designed to reduce inductance levels, thereby reducing stray losses. k-factor transformers do not reduce or mitigate harmonic levels but are specifically designed to withstand the harmful thermal effects of harmonics generated by non-linear loads. harmful thermal effects of currents. Oversized (200% rating) neutral lines and electrostatic shielding are typical features of K-coefficient transformers.

Step-up and step-down transformers

Buck-boost transformers are suitable for applications where the available voltage needs to be slightly increased or decreased (lowered). When step-down-boost transformers are wired as autotransformers, they can be used to automate this step-down or step-up. Buck-boost transformers are single-phase packaged transformers offering three voltage combinations.

120 V x 240-12/24 V

120 V x 240-16/32 V

240 x 480 V-24/48 V

These buck-boost transformers are available in specific combinations for outputting the required voltage levels and load kVA requirements. As step-down-boost transformers only slightly increase or decrease the voltage level and are usually wired as autotransformers, the actual step-down-boost transformer kVA size is usually very small compared to the kVA requirements of the load. Buck-boost transformers are available in sizes ranging from just 0.05 kVA to 7.5 kVA but can be used to step up or step downloads of up to several hundred kVA. These transformers can also be used at their nameplate voltage for applications such as low-voltage indoor or landscape lighting.
